Kader Attia is a visual artist and author whose interdisciplinary and intercultural approach is deeply influenced by his own experiences with different cultures, having grown up in Algeria and Paris. His work explores how societies perceive their history, especially in relation to deprivation, suppression, and their lasting effects on nations and individuals as part of a collective memory. Through his socio-cultural research, Attia has developed the notion of “Repair”, which he regards as a fundamental and ongoing process in nature, an infinite cycle connected to recuperation and re-appropriation. Attia currently lives and works in Berlin and Paris.

Kader Attia’s work has exhibited at institutions worldwide, including the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá, Berlinische Gallery, the Berlin Bienniale, Kunsthaus Zürich, Fundació Miró, the 57^th Venice Biennial, MoMA in New York, SMAK in Ghent, MMK in Frankfurt, and Documenta (13) in Kassel. Kader was awarded the Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2016, as well as the Joan Miró Prize and the Yanghun Prize in 2017.
