Mindsets of the Presence

For this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach we concentrate on changing mindsets of our post-pandemic, eco and techno conscious presence.
A signature work by American environmentalist artist Mark Dion (*1961) meets the meme paintings of Taiwanese American artist Christine Tien Wang (1985) and the „Landscape 3.0“ paintings of Kazakhstan born and Munich based artist Hell Gette (*1986), which Bernhart Schwenk, director of Pinakothek der Moderne Munich, once called "Capricci of the 21st century“.

In addition to its functional aspects, every technical innovation also has a cultural, aesthetic and social significance.
For artists, such innovations are sources of inspiration and discussion.

As an avant-garde gallery, we have always been interested in new art forms, and so we were delighted that media artist Kenny Schachter accepted our invitation in early 2021 to curate our first exhibition dedicated to artists working with blockchain technologies and NFTs: "Breadcrumbs: Art in the Age of NFTism“. Our presentation at Art Basel 2021 for which we presented a „Crypto-Kiosk“ built on this.

At Art Basel Miami Beach 2021, together with Schachter, we will go one step further with an LED wall presentation of an interactive gallery space located in the metaverse. This state-of-the-art virtual environment was architecturally designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and brought to life by Journee - The Metaverse Company™, who specializes in helping brands connect with their audiences in new, measurable ways.

Alongside this Metaverse presentation, Kenny Schachter designed the whole layout of our booth, where we are proud to present new artworks by Kevin Abosch, Olive Allen, Sarah Friend, Rhea Myers, Kenny Schachter, Theo Triantafyllidis. And two additional projects by Kenny Schachter: "VOICE GEM #1042 - KENNY SCHACHTER" in cooperation with Harry Yeff & Trung Bao; and “NFTism”, in cooperation with “Meta Watch Association”.

Being in its early years, blockchain technology looks to be culturally, technically, and economically where the world wide web was in 1995. New York painter Egan Frantz (*1986) states: "I don’t care about NFT’s and I don’t plan to make one -- I’m a painter -- but I am challenging myself to make a painting that reflects the situation as well as Albert Oehlen’s Computer Paintings reflected the dot com boom in the 90’s.”
