Pressetext

Stephan Dillemuth locates the fine artist’s potential in the public surrounding, which continuously changes caused by globalization and monitoring. In his exhibition “Neueröffnung” (reopening) he explores the possibilities of space set as an art space referring to these changes. The exhibition can be seen as a kind of an open code, possibly embedded in forms of product, labor and communication.

Stephan Dillemuth writes: “Today the public seems to us diffuse, paralyzed and deeply furrowed by markets. Institutions select and nobilitate, they create values, they define, how knowledge can be made accessable, they translate it into a relationship with the public. Unlike the institutional authority the exhibition makes itself vulnerable and tries to keep the access open. This is necessary, if we want to investigate how open sources and open knowledge can change our live conditions.”

Stephan Dillemuth, born 1954 in Büdingen / Hesse, lives in Bad Wiessee / Bavaria. He teaches at the Akademie der bildenden Künste München and is member of the councillarship of the Akademie der bildenden Künste, Vienna. Current exhibitions (selections): Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel, Secession, Vienna, 2012 / 2011 1st Retrospective, Uma Certa Falta de Coerência, Porto, 2011 / The Hard Way to Enlightment, Transmission Gallery, Glasgow, 2010 / Manifesta 8, Murcia, 2010 / Marktverficktes Sein, Galerie für Landschaftskunst, Hamburg, 2009 / You have been misinformed, mit Nils Norman, Reena Spaulings Fine Art, New York, 2008 / A Mystery Thing, mit Nils Norman, Vilma Gold, London; Erfolg, Galerie Nagel, Cologne, 2007
