Press Release
with Egan Frantz, Sven Johne, Stefan Müller & Stephanie Taylor
Art is going through a crisis. It has gained some bad reputation lately; the reputation of short time investment. "Buy now" and "Sell now" lists are being published. One fears this can't be good. One thinks again, why not? One hopes to make some deals, to buy and sell in the right moment, to win. One wants to participate.
Some works resemble empty condos that are traded in real estate. Vast blocks of condos that will never be inhabited have gone up in world cities from Miami to Beijing. Yes, some artworks are like empty condos, they will never make sense. From the investors perspective they don't have to.
Investors think: "Art is easy to make. Everybody can be an artist and everybody can be a collector. It is easy to make money with art."
We think: Money kills and one can't eat it. Money is no substitute for art. Too many condos destroy a city's life.
