Press Release

Clegg & Guttmann present works exploring different typologies of images: portrait, landscape, and still life – genres recognized as main types of painting in the 17th century. The exhibition features key pieces from their body of work: portraits referencing historical depictions and explorations of power and its visual representation in contemporary society; still lifes that engage in a discourse on objects and consumption; and landscape as a symbol of nature and industrialization.

Michael Clegg (born 1957, Dublin) and Yair Martin Guttmann (born 1957, Jerusalem) met at the School of Visual Arts in New York in Joseph Kosuth’s class and have worked as an artist duo since 1980. In 2022, they received the Max Hermann Prize for their public library project. Their work has been shown in solo exhibitions at numerous institutions, including Konschthal Esch, Kunstmuseum Basel, Museum for Applied Arts in Vienna, Kunstverein Salzburg, and MUMOK Vienna.
