“In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower”

In her exhibition „In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower“ Alexandra Zuckerman is looking for an alternative to the (shall we say male dominated?) fashion of rough expressive gesture in contemporary painting. Like cards, surrealistically and symbolically, coloured drawings show „females” beyond all history, engagement, tragedy, involved in a world of objects which are not being interpreted but just shown in different constellations.

In structure and motive this is inspired by the Nouveau Romans of Robbe Grillet, first of his entire filmic novel „The blue villa in Hong Kong“. Here the movements of female figures, like in an artful mirror cabinet, confusingly and surprisingly appear in changing adjustments.

Alexandra Zuckerman was born in Russia, 1981. She lives and works in Tel Aviv.
